We make assumptions about the world around us based on our individual, constructed belief systems, and then work really hard to make sense of everything through the lens of our beliefs. It’s a human reaction to disorder, I think…to try and find order/predict the future/fit every disaster into a perfectly square box, because without those constructs, we find ourselves in an unknown, and often terrifying, world. Stark, bright colours and lines hide the complexities of the unknown, and keep us from asking the questions when we are afraid of what the answers might be, or that the answer doesn’t even exist in the first place.
We are afraid of our own immortality, of chaotic changes and inexplicable occurences in our evolutionary world. It’s much safer to “camp” away from the grey areas, find something concrete to latch on to, and hold on for dear life.
To me, ‘heresy’ is such things as fomenting war for ‘gods’ other than War Gods, implementing partial versions of otherwise peaceful faiths to promote hostility, and claiming any one faith as the ‘only’ valid faith. Yeah, it seems lots of people engage in these heresies.
If his actions are nonviolent and don’t promote violence, his swamp-gas oratory is but personal belief. I condemn bomb-throwing maniacs while I protect people who only pray five times daily in their own back yard or conduct themed charities…
‘A gardener of theory, harvester of facts…
A sower of religion, quick to use the axe!
She drowns herself in questions of standing past years,
Blinded by the answers and drowning in the tears – Deaf in both ears!’
(Flash and the Pan)
The ability of the human soul to ignore all sorts of things, disaster, people, friends, lovers, aches and pains, torture, joy, love, hate, is astounding.
I find this one very aesthetically pleasing.

I often do that in response to your drawings and captions… that’s why I love them so much…
