MY favourite Valentine story is: It's a celebration that is based on the roman Lupercalias. Women were hit with thongs from sacrificed goats by naked young man. It was supposed to make it easier giving birth to a child. Valentine's day was stolen by the church. Yay. The whole Valentine issue makes me bemoan the lack of a word like "Kitsch" in the english language. Or at least bemoan the lack of people who use it. St. Valentine is not real. Different cultures, languages, beliefs...and nearly 20 years age difference. Everyone, on both sides, said it would never work. It has, for nearly 30 years. We are deeply happy. The differences persist and perhaps that is why we are so happy--we each bring the other new things. Our families still dislike the "outsider" that each one of us married...so we have moved on. The guillotine didn't cut off our heads, it just cut us off from them. We continue to grow together. Sometimes pruning is necessary. Most improbably. Different cultures, languages, beliefs…and nearly 20 years age difference. Everyone, on both sides, said it would never work. It has, for nearly 30 years. We are deeply happy.
