Your Problems
Have you ever wondered if someone was really listening? Or why they pretended to listen in the first place? Or why you do?
Transcriptorial: Francis wishes he could care / about your stupid problems.
Have you ever wondered if someone was really listening? Or why they pretended to listen in the first place? Or why you do?
Have you ever wondered if someone was really listening?
I know when someone isn’t actually listening.
Or why they pretended to listen in the first place?
Initially you try to entertain different possibilities, just so you can give the benefit of the doubt.
then you immerse yourself in conversations with this person so you’ll understand where he’s coming from and he’ll see too whether he shouldn’t really listen to you.
Then as you talk to the person more and more, you get to understand the nuances.
does he pretend to listen because he’s actually not interested but is trying to be polite?
does he pretend to listen because he wants to know what you are thinking, not actually “interested” in it per se but he just “needs” to know?
does he pretend to listen because he wants something else?
does he pretend to listen because even if he wants to his attention span precludes you?
does he pretend to listen because he is basically a pretender?
Or why you do?
It’s difficult to just box people and say one is pretending and inject a premise that fits our own semantics. we only get to understand what’s really happening if we take time to really listen and try to understand things.
somehow your works seems “Tim Burton” inspired these days…
There is a little Jack Skellington to them, at least in terms of circular faces and spindly fingers.
There have been a lot of spiders around my place lately. I started naming them one day and then I got the idea to do a series of portraits, just making the spiders a little more human.
I wish I could care about my stupid problems.
And then again, I wish I didn’t.
I prefer people who don’t listen, I am trying not to tell them. Their pretense scares me, because it reminds me that I am pretending.
Am I pretending?
Who am I pretending to be?
Who am I pretending to?
Who am I?
To me, many of our so-called elected officials’ problems are detached and stupid…
‘Bloodrack, barbed wire!
Politicians’ funeral fire!
Innocents raped with napalm fire!
21st century schizoid man!
Deathwatch, blindman’s greed,
Poets’ starving children bleed,
Nothing he’s got he really needs!
21st century schizoid man!’
