Ack! I’ve changed my sign-in name a few times this year, orinoco, and now I feel bad for having done so! In case you’re interested, this year I’ve posted variously as “kitten,” “dove,” “almost,” maybe a few others I’ve forgotten, and under my real name, Christina.

I will keep my name to “flower” going forward, though, so that you’ll know it’s me. Unless you’d like to christen me with another name?

To me, Autumn is the most beautiful, life-affirming season of the year. The crisp, cold air is like champagne after a long hot summer. Yes, the year turns, but by the very changes we know that spring will come again.

If you never have, listen to Justin Hayward’s “Forever Autumn”. How he managed to encapsulate the spirit of autumn in music I will never know. Not so much the lyrics, the music itself.

Rather than an end, dandelion seeds look like new beginnings to me. Their parachutes take them away from the parent plant and they try to find soil to root in before some bird snaps them up.

Meanwhile I’ll collect the leaves of the parent plant for tea or wine. We may as well drink, toast to a renewal of the Cold War and stress in China and Russia – and here in the USA.
