Exactly, Madness! Exactly!

And yes, you can--and do--change the world completely based on perception. If you don't recognize it, you're the only one that misses out on the power that carries.

So the sentiment was more in line with the idea that people's opinions are not heard as they are meant many times. How some people can hear praise like "Good job, but..." and only hear the "but..." part. You're saying that when we hear people's opinions our own views on the subject deafen us to all but that which we want to hear.
In the case of the original subject this is inappropriate, however. This is saying that something that means the world to you can mean nothing to someone else. This is more a question of personal priority than it is of opinion. It would take a very self-deluded person to believe that he can shape other peoples' priorities, or even his perception thereof to such an extent. While it is true that the world around us is skewed by personal bias, it is still an absolute world that can only be skewed so much. You can not change reality just by thinking it is different.

As humans, we are able to distinguish that which is created in our own mind and that which is not only when the difference is blatant enough.

And then we go ahead and assume that's the only kind of difference there is.

There are two ways to read what I wrote:

1) As a message of complete disbelief in everyone's existence.

2) As a suggestion of a simple plan to make you love yourself more.

Mona Lisa says "One's perception of people is colored by your thoughts and experiences". I say it is *translated* into your thoughts and experiences.

people are self centred by nature, Sarah. Your perception of other people is coloured by your thoughts and experiences. I have to agree with Madness, but take him less literally. Other people are subject to your interpretation of them.

That is the most conceited thing I have ever heard in my life. Do you honestly think that every other person out there is simply a reflection of your self; that each mind you touch is simply your own mind throwing echoes at you?

Not really. Everyone are figments of my imagination anyway.

If they do not like something, it simply reflects a side of my inner distaste at the thing.

Everything you do should only matter to you. If it happens to matter to something else then it's really special.

Saw you on A Softer World. Love your works.
