The Camera Thief

No tourist takes a picture he does not already have in his mind. They copy postcards already seen. They take pictures of their own expectations. The world needs benevolent camera joyriders. People need to leave more of themselves behind.

Transcriptorial: Before tourists even noticed it missing / she returned / photos they'd never know to take.

Inspired by this panel, I started a campaign to do this very thing. The last 3 months has been an exercise in sharing myself with people I’ll never meet. Everytime a roll is developed, a minor existential crisis occurs. “Til human voices wake us, and we drown.”

How have you been doing this?

Ah, the joys of digital cameras. Take pictures of everyting and sort out the ones you like and don’t like later without having to worry about waisting film. Some friends say I’m good with a camera, but if you take enough pictures your bound to get lucky every now and again. I usually keep the majority of the pictures I take for memory sake more than anything else.

This reminded me of that as well, and I’m not even sure why!
